CORONADO BREWING PARTNERS WITH SURFRIDER FOUNDATION TO LAUNCH COASTWISE SESSION IPA

Today, Coronado Brewing Company is excited to announce a new partnership with the Surfrider Foundation, the leading nonprofit organization dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the coasts, with the launch of a new collaboration beer, CoastWise Session IPA. In line with Coronado Brewing Company’s brand mantra to ‘Stay Coastal,’ a portion of the proceeds will support Surfrider Foundation’s mission of protecting the ocean, waves and beaches. CoastWise is the latest addition to the company’s core lineup, and will be available in retail locations throughout Coronado’s distribution network starting April 1, 2017. In addition to the proceeds from beer sales, the company is also hosting a series of beach cleanups leading up to Earth Day on April 22.

“As a local brewery with coastal roots, we’re thrilled to partner with the Surfrider Foundation to help support the protection of our ocean and shorelines,” said Brandon Richards, COO, Coronado Brewing Company. “Since founding Coronado Brewing Company 21 years ago on Coronado Island, we’ve been continually inspired by the ocean lifestyle, and we felt this was a natural partnership that gives consumers an opportunity to directly support the protection of the coasts through the CoastWise collaboration.”

CoastWise Session IPA is brewed with a blend of Mosaic and Sorachi Ace, giving the beer bright tropical and citrus notes, with a lingering, dry bitterness. At 5% ABV, CoastWise is the perfect session beer, and the recyclable can makes it the ultimate beverage to enjoy outdoors this summer. “We had a lot of fun bringing this brand to life and we think the art and the message will resonate with our customers,” said Richards. The hand-sketched artwork on the can embodies a playful and edgy version of Poseidon, protector of the sea and nod to Coronado’s mermaid roots.

“We’re excited about this amazing partnership with Coronado Brewing Company that will support our work to keep our coasts clean and accessible,” said Dr. Chad Nelsen, CEO of the Surfrider Foundation. “Like Surfrider, Coronado Brewing Company is committed to the protection of our coasts and every purchase directly supports Surfrider’s mission.”

In time for spring, CoastWise will be available on draft and in can six-packs starting April 1 in the primary regions of California, Illinois and North Carolina, and will expand to additional states throughout the company’s distribution network. Additionally, Coronado partnered with Thinfilm to create smart coasters designed to tell the story of the Surfrider collaboration through a novel digital experience launched via a simple tap of a smartphone.

Coronado Brewing Opening New Facility At Imperial Beach Bikeway Village

Coronado Brewing Company is excited to announce plans for a new facility in the country’s most southwesterly city, Imperial Beach. The project is part of Imperial Beach’s revitalization at Bikeway Village, and Coronado Brewing will be an anchor of the new development. The site plan consists of two 15,000 sq. ft. buildings, one of which will house Coronado Brewing and the other will be home to a local coffee shop, bike shop, and additional retail. Studio E Architects brought life to the formerly dilapidated space through a dramatic color-scheme, large-scale Alaskan cedar trellises, and corrugated metal.

“We’ve been wanting to open another location for some time, and we felt like the South Bay has been under-served by craft beer,” says Kasey Chapman, COO, Coronado Brewing Company. “Bikeway Village offers us a great location, with easy access to the freeway and the rest of the South Bay. The success of our current I.B. location has shown that the demand is there, and we’re looking forward to having a larger space for more people to experience the Coronado brand.”

Bikeway Village is located at 13th Street, with sweeping views of the estuary, San Diego Bay, downtown, and Coronado Bridge. Decades in the making, the Bikeway Village plan was “strategically designed to accommodate bicyclist, after-surf coffee goers and inspire further outdoor recreation with all the modern comforts.” Coronado Brewing is building a full-service restaurant (approx. 7k sq. ft.), 10-barrel brewery, and eventual plans for a distillery. The company will also have ample outdoor space, allowing guests to relax around fire pits while taking in the unobstructed views of downtown, or host private group events.

Coronado expects the project to take 12-18 months to complete, but the company plans on opening a temporary tasting room in time for this summer. “We want people to enjoy the beautiful outdoor space while we work on the interior,” says Chapman. “We plan on having a mobile beer trailer with 18-20 taps, food trucks, and plenty of outdoor seating. It’s going to be an awesome part of the community and we hope it’s a place where people of all ages can come and enjoy great beer in a comfortable setting.”

Coronado is enthusiastic about bringing more craft beer to the South Bay, and so is Rex Butler, owner of Bikeway Village. “We are very excited to have Coronado Brewing Company join us at Bikeway Village,” says Butler. “Good things come to those who wait, and this building rehabilitation has definitely proven worthy of its extraordinarily long project lifespan.  Next up, an interesting and eclectic mix of tenants and cold beer on the terrace.”

Coronado & Cigar City Release Conquista IPA

Conquista IPA
Coronado Brewing and Cigar City Brewing are no strangers to good IPA’s, so it only made sense for these two award-winning breweries to join forces on a hop-forward collaboration: Conquista IPA. Cigar City Brewmaster, Wayne Wambles, partnered with Coronado Brewmaster, Ryan Brooks, to brew a west coast-inspired IPA featuring Polaris, a new German varietal prized for its complex pineapple and herb notes. “Wayne and I both love IPA’s and we wanted to brew something we’d enjoy drinking,” says Ryan Brooks, Brewmaster, Coronado Brewing Company. “We knew we wanted the beer to be dank and juicy, and we definitely achieved that with Conquista.”

Brooks flew to Wolnzach, Germany to hand-select the Polaris hops used for this beer. “It was important for me to try different lots of this hop to ensure the batch we selected was perfect,” says Brooks.  A blend of Polaris, Equinox, and Simcoe gives the beer earthy, resiny, ripe mango, and herbaceous notes. The beer is then dry-hopped with same hop blend for a pleasant ripe-fruit aroma, with hint of spice. “We had a lot of fun brewing this beer together,” says Brooks. “It was awesome having Wayne fly in to help with the brew and we’re excited for people to try it.”

Conquista is available in 22oz bombers and on draft throughout Coronado’s distribution network. Fans are invited to stop by the Coronado Tasting Room beginning this Friday to pick up fresh bottles before they hit retail shelves. For more information about Conquista IPA, please visit coronadobrewing.com/beer/conquista-ipa/. Stay Coastal. Cheers.

Label Copy
Like the Conquistadores exploring new lands, Coronado and Cigar City Brewing have set out to brew an IPA in unchartered waters. Conquista showcases the recently introduced German hop, Polaris, known for its high alpha acids and distinct pineapple and herbaceous notes. This collaboration IPA is sure to stake a claim on your taste buds.

Coronado Brewing has become a global name over the past few years, but the core of the brand stems in staying true to its roots. “The growth of Coronado Brewing has been amazing, and we want our beers to represent who we are as a brand,” said Ron Chapman, CEO and co-founder of Coronado Brewing. “Adding cans to our lineup just helps enhance who Coronado Brewing is.”

“We are very excited about the release of our new Stay Coastal cans; this is something we have been talking about for many years,” said Brandon Richards, vice president of sales and marketing. “Here at Coronado Brewing our lives are very much tied to the outdoors and west coast lifestyle. Having our beer available in a can, opens us up to many of those drinking occasions that lend well to us living that lifestyle.”

North unites with South in this long-awaited collaboration between two notable west coast breweries

CORONADO, CA — February 12, 2016 — It’s half mermaid, half bear, and entirely fantastic. MerBear Rye IPA, the new love child of SoCal icon Coronado Brewing and NorCal heavyweight Bear Republic, is set to hit shelves mid-February. The friendship began a few years back when president Rick Chapman and Brewmaster and COO Richard “Ricardo” Norgrove, of Coronado and Bear Republic respectively, met for beers at a local San Diego beer bar where they discussed the idea of the two creating something special. Two years, and countless collaborative visits later, MerBear was born.

“We have always respected the team and loved drinking their beers,” said Brandon Richards, vice president of sales and marketing. “We’ve built a solid relationship with Bear Republic and enjoy working with each other any chance we get,” continued Richards. “This is something I can see developing into more collaborations in the future.”

“It was fun putting our heads together for the MerBear collaboration, and we look forward to seeing how the MerBear project evolves in the future,” said Bear Republic Head Brewer Rob Kent.

By land and by sea, MerBear Rye IPA is a unique union of styles.
