As members of the Craft Brewing Industry, it is our duty to create a culture that nurtures new ideas, inclusiveness, and diversity. As a small and independent business, we have a responsibility to our community. We must acknowledge that the faces in our industry do not always reflect the diversity of the communities that we serve, and WE WILL DO BETTER.

We understand that in order to create change, we must be a part of the solution. We cannot be bystanders in the fight for social justice. To the black community – we see you, we hear you and we are listening. Coronado Brewing Company is committed to supporting the black community and taking positive steps to building an ethnic mosaic that is all-inclusive. Our first action will be to donate 100% of the proceeds from our upcoming beer release “Untitled” to the nonprofit organizations, Know Your Rights Camp @yourrightscamp (https://www.knowyourrightscamp.com/) and The Sentencing Project @endlifeimprisonment (https://www.sentencingproject.org/).

Our second action will be to address diversity and inclusiveness within our company and leadership teams. This work will be led by Eddie Buchannon, our Vice President of Business Development, and will explore ways we can further diversify our company and continue to build stronger relationships with communities of color.

We are committed to being a diverse and inclusive company. We are committed to finding more ways to help humanity, better ways to serve our communities, and be a more pronounced voice in the conversation about the social injustice communities of color face. Together we can make a difference.

The beer “Untitled” is an 8.1% Double Dry Hopped DIPA using Mosaic, Vic Secret, and Citra hops and will be available Wednesday, June 24 at all three Coronado locations ONLY.

CORONADO BREWING RELEASES FAN-FAVORITE PEACH CRUISER IPA IN 16OZ CANS

Coming off the success of last year’s Knoxville Series, Coronado Brewing Company is re-releasing Peach Cruiser IPA just in time for summer. Coronado’s Knoxville Seasonal Series debuted back in 2018 and features three special-release beers distributed throughout Coronado’s distribution network. The seasonal program offers beer drinkers fun, interesting beers available to buy on store shelves, while supplies last. Peach Cruiser IPA is the second installment in the series and will be followed by Early Bird, currently scheduled as the third release later this year.

Peach Cruiser is a San Diego-style IPA brewed with summer in mind. The beer is brewed using a blend of Mosaic, Citra, and Azacca hops, with fresh peach, apricot, and lactose added to complement the tropical citrus hoppiness. “When I think of summer, I think of tropical fruit and the beach,” says Mark Thiesen, Head Brewer, Coronado Brewing Company. “The blend of hops we used brings out all the bright, tropical fruit characteristics you look for in a summer beer, and the fresh peach puree complements and enhances those flavors nicely. The end result is an incredibly easy-drinking and refreshing IPA that’s perfect for outdoor activities.”

Peach Cruiser IPA will debut at all Coronado locations on May 15th in 16oz., four-pack cans. The beer will hit broader retail availability at the end of May and will be available to buy on store shelves throughout the company’s distribution network. For more information about Peach Cruiser IPA, visit www.coronadobrewing.com. Stay Coastal. Cheers.

Covid-19 Updates 3.16.20

Hi CBC Family,

Circumstances are rapidly evolving. The City of San Diego has issued orders for all restaurants to cease in-person dining, effective 3/17. We will remain open today (3/16) and will start offering to-go services only, tomorrow.

All three of our locations are currently equipped to offer food to-go and beer to-go (in cans, glass, crowlers, growlers). We are actively working on a curbside option—we will share news as we finalize plans. In the meantime, we have fully stocked kitchens and coolers. We are here to serve you and your to-go needs.

If you’re looking where to find our beer closer to home, please reference our Brew Finder. We have also seen that BevMo, Whole Foods, and Instacart are offering home deliveries, including alcohol (and CBC beer!).

We know these are challenging times. We hope to continue to serve the community in a responsible manner. We will continue to share more news as the situation evolves.

Thank you for your patience. Stay safe.

Sincerely,

CBC Team

Coronado Brewing Releases Tropical Darkroom Sour IPA

Coronado Brewing Company is proud to bring back its Art Series for 2020. The company first debuted its Art Series in 2018, and the series has since evolved to now feature fan-submitted art on each of its cans. Coronado will release three Art Series beers in 2020, kicking off the series with Tropical Darkroom IPA. The winning photo was submitted by San Diego-based photographer Derek Delacroix; Derek exclusively shoots palm trees in black and white, and for each print he sells, he donates 50% of proceeds to the Surfrider Foundation. His Instagram handle is @tropicaldarkroom, and that was the inspiration behind the beer’s name—Tropical Darkroom Sour

Tropical Darkroom is a kettle sour IPA brewed and dry-hopped with fruit-forward Sabro and Mosaic hops, for a bright, tropical hop profile. The brewers then added fresh kiwi puree to counterbalance the clean sour notes of the beer, for a refreshingly tart and bitter brew, with lingering kiwi sweetness. “We used a boatload of kiwi in the beer—almost 13 pounds per barrel,” says Mark Theisen, Head Brewer, Coronado Brewing Company. “The Mosaic and Sabro dry-hop combo gives the beer a really nice tropical, piña colada-like quality that goes really well with the kiwi. The beer finishes tart, but not super sour. We really wanted to find the perfect balance between a kettle sour and an IPA, and I think we achieved that with this beer.”

Tropical Darkroom IPA will debut at the company’s three locations on Friday, February 21, before being available for broader retail in March. Tropical Darkroom Sour IPA will be available on draft and in 16oz can 4-packs, while supplies last. Fans are encouraged to submit photos for future Art Series beers by following Coronado Brewing on Instagram and submitting photos using the hashtags #coronadoentry and #staycoastal. The company is currently searching for submissions for its second Art Series release, planned for June 2020. For more information about Tropical Darkroom Sour IPA, visit www.coronadobrewing.com. Coronado Brewing Releases Shaka Berry Pastry Stout Just in Time for Valentine’s Day

SAN DIEGO – February 5, 2020Coronado Brewing Company is keeping things sweet, with a special release just in time for Valentine’s Day. Shaka Berry Pastry Stout is a limited release in the company’s new Stout Series, and the first time the company is releasing one of its high-octane stouts in a 16oz can format. “We wanted to have fun with a pastry stout that was big and decadent, but not barrel-aged,” says Mark Theisen, Head Brewer, Coronado Brewing Company. “We explored a lot of flavor profiles before landing where we did. The combo of chocolate and fruit work so well together and it really is the perfect beer to crack open for Valentine’s Day.”

Shaka Berry Pastry Stout starts off with a high gravity imperial stout recipe, brewed with a complex malt bill of roasted malts, chocolate malts, and three kinds of caramel malt. “This beer is so big, that in order to hit our ABV goals, we did a double mash for each batch,” says Theisen. “We were basically using double the grist and doing a really long boil to hit our 10.5% ABV.” In addition to the imperial stout base, the brewers added cocoa powder, vanilla beans, lactose, and a blend of blackberries and boysenberries. “This was a challenging beer because we wanted the chocolate and fruit to be in harmony and not compete with each other,” says Theisen. “I get a lot of cocoa up front, then the berries hit you with a slight tartness that cuts through the sweetness of the rich stout base. In the end, its super complex but drinkable, and we encourage fans to enjoy it now!”

Shaka Berry Pastry Stout is available Friday, February 7, at all three Coronado Brewing Company locations, followed by broader distribution throughout the company’s network, the following week. The beer will be available on draft and in 16oz can 4-packs, while supplies last. For more information about Shaka Berry Pastry Stout, visit www.coronadobrewing.com. Stay Coastal. Cheers.

Coronado Brewing and Pizza Port Brewing Release Two-Part Collab Series

#mermaidsighting

#staycoastal

SAN DIEGO – January 10, 2020Coronado Brewing Company and Pizza Port Brewing Company are two of San Diego’s pioneering breweries, and over the years the two have forged a deep and lasting friendship. “I’ve known Gina, Vince, and the Pizza Port crew since back in the early days of the San Diego beer scene,” says Rick Chapman, Co-founder, Coronado Brewing Company.  “Recently we got to talking and we realized we’ve never brewed together. We laughed and immediately got to work on this collaboration. Both of our brands have a lot of similarities—we’re both laid back, love our coastal lifestyle, and don’t take ourselves too seriously. It seemed like a home run to partner up.”  Gina Marsaglia, Co-Founder, Pizza Port Brewing Co., says,“We are so fortunate to have known Rick and the Coronado crew over the years and when the mere mention of a collaboration opportunity came up we immediately started the creative process. Seeing it come to fruition has been the best way to celebrate the amazing relationship we have built throughout time. Cheers!”

The concept for the two-part collaboration series centered on the theme “beers between piers”—a fun play on words as the two breweries are both peers in the craft industry, and the physical breweries are located to the north and south between beach piers. From there, the concept evolved to have Coronado Brewing releasing the first beer in the series: South of the Pier IPA, and Pizza Port releasing the second installment of the series, North of the Pier IPA. “When we first met with the Pizza Port crew, we immediately knew we wanted to brew two different takes on IPAs. Both of our breweries are known for brewing IPAs, so we thought we’d have fun playing on the idea of North and South with the hop profiles,” says Mark Theisen, Head Brewer, Coronado Brewing Company.

Coronado’s take on the collab, South of the Pier IPA, is a classic west coast IPA brewed with Mosaic, Amarillo and southern hemisphere Waimea and Motueka hops. The beer is dry-hopped with two pounds of hops per barrel for a bright, tropical aroma with lingering sweet orange citrus notes. “What I really love about this IPA is the huge fruit-forward aroma and flavor with a crisp, dry finish,” says Theisen. “We kept the malt bill simple to really let the hops shine and keep in line with that classic west coast profile.” Pizza Port’s take on the west coast IPA will feature northern hemisphere hops to play off the North of the Pier name. “We wanted our version to showcase Pacific Northwest and newer European hops to have a slightly different take on what we brewed with Coronado’s version. It was fun to showcase the difference in northern and southern hop profiles with our two beers,” says Sean Farrell, Director of Brewery Operations, Pizza Port (and former head brewer for Coronado Brewing Company).

South of the Pier IPA debuts at Coronado’s three locations and select Pizza Port locations on Friday, January 17. The beer will be available in 16oz can 4-packs and on draft, throughout Coronado’s distribution network. Pizza Port’s version of the collab, North of the Pier IPA, will release in May 2020, available in 16oz six-packs at its pub locations and wherever Pizza Port beer is sold. For more information about South of the Pier IPA, visit www.coronadobrewing.com. Stay Coastal. Cheers.

Coronado Brewing Debuts Final Beer in 2019 Art Series: Mango Sprinkles Hazy IPA

SAN DIEGO – November 1, 2019Coronado Brewing Company is releasing Mango Sprinkles Hazy IPA, the fourth and final installment of its 2019 Art Series. Coronado is proud to support emerging artists by featuring a fan-submitted Instagram photo on each of its quarterly releases. The fourth winner of the 2019 contest is Wyland Szabo, an Oceanside-based aerial photographer. Szabo’s aerial photo of surfers in the water was reminiscent of colorful sprinkles and gave inspiration for the naming of Mango Sprinkles Hazy IPA.

Mango Sprinkles Hazy IPA is a playful twist on the haze craze. “I am stoked for people to try this beer,” says Mark Theisen, Head Brewer, Coronado Brewing Company. “It pours like a mango smoothie and super fruit forward with just enough bitterness to balance everything.” The brewers started with a hazy IPA recipe and upped the ante with fresh mango puree and a hefty dose of Simcoe, Mosaic, Azacca, Amarillo and Chinook hops. The beer is then fermented with a centuries-old strain of Norwegian farmhouse ale yeast, called Kveik (Norwegian for “yeast”). This particular yeast strain imparts fruity esters of lime and citrus to perfectly complement the mango and hop character in the beer. Lastly, the beer is dry-hopped with almost two pounds per barrel of Mosaic, Azacca, Amarillo and Chinook hops, for an intensely dank and ripe fruit hop character.

Mango Sprinkles Hazy IPA is available in 16oz can 4-packs and on draft, beginning Friday, November 1, at each of Coronado’s three locations. The beer will be available throughout Coronado’s distribution network beginning the week of November 4. The company will launch its 2020 art contest in mid-November, for a March 2020 release. Fans are encouraged to enter their photos by submitting entries through Instagram using the hashtags #staycoastal and #coronadoentry. For more information about Mango Sprinkles or the contest, visit www.coronadobrewing.com. Stay Coastal. Cheers.

This partnership unites two iconic San Diego brands, whose roots both aim to connect with the water; Coronado Brewing’s “stay coastal” ethos perfectly aligns with Salty Crew’s mission to bring watermen back to their core: the ocean. “We have known the Salty Crew founders for a long time—they frequent our Tasting Room and they have history with several of our staff,” says Brandon Richards, CEO, Coronado Brewing Company. “When they approached us about brewing a one-off beer for a movie premiere, we realized there was an opportunity to make this much bigger by pursuing a year-round offering.”
