Bear Republic Collab, MerBear Launches

Merbear Rye IPA

CORONADO BREWING COMPANY AND BEAR REPUBLIC RELEASE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED COLLABORATION, MERBEAR RYE IPA

North unites with South in this long-awaited collaboration between two notable west coast breweries

CORONADO, CA — February 12, 2016 — It’s half mermaid, half bear, and entirely fantastic. MerBear Rye IPA, the new love child of SoCal icon Coronado Brewing and NorCal heavyweight Bear Republic, is set to hit shelves mid-February. The friendship began a few years back when president Rick Chapman and Brewmaster and COO Richard “Ricardo” Norgrove, of Coronado and Bear Republic respectively, met for beers at a local San Diego beer bar where they discussed the idea of the two creating something special. Two years, and countless collaborative visits later, MerBear was born.

“We have always respected the team and loved drinking their beers,” said Brandon Richards, vice president of sales and marketing. “We’ve built a solid relationship with Bear Republic and enjoy working with each other any chance we get,” continued Richards. “This is something I can see developing into more collaborations in the future.”

“It was fun putting our heads together for the MerBear collaboration, and we look forward to seeing how the MerBear project evolves in the future,” said Bear Republic Head Brewer Rob Kent.

By land and by sea, MerBear Rye IPA is a unique union of styles. Amarillo, Hallertau Blanc, Centennial, and Equinox hops lend to the beer’s pungent, fruity character that ends on a spicy, malty caramel backbone. Rarely seen, yet never ignored, it’s an unforgettably full-bodied ale, carefully crafted for those particularly audacious craft beer drinkers.

Announcing Brand Refresh

CORONADO BREWING ANNOUNCES BRAND REFRESH, WELCOMES CANS TO LINEUP

Coastal-inspired brand evolution includes updated logo, tagline and packaging

CORONADO, Calif. – November 11, 2015 – Coronado Brewing Company has announced its new brand evolution, as the craft brewery is poised to enter its twentieth year. With a desire for a more focused and consistent brand foundation, the World Beer Cup champion turned to another San Diego-based company to lead the effort-branding agency MiresBall.

The MiresBall team created a cleaner look and feel, embracing the craft brewery’s passion for family, friends and creating exceptional, approachable beer. A new tagline, Stay Coastal, references Coronado Brewing’s rich history in Coronado, and the relaxed state of mind that resonates with both locals and fans worldwide. The Coronado mermaid, slightly updated, remains an iconic figure at the core of the brand. Other new elements include the logo, fonts, packaging hierarchy and color scheme.

“The goal was to be more aligned across the brand’s portfolio as we move globally,” said Heather Dueitt, marketing manager at Coronado Brewing Company. “The packaging design for the launch of our new cans offered a great opportunity to dive deeper into our coastal story,” continued Dueitt. “The team at MiresBall helped us focus on who we are as a SoCal-style, family-owned and -operated brewery. Founders Rick and Ron Chapman were also heavily involved throughout the branding process.”

“Coronado Brewing has built a soulful legacy around their delicious beer, great food, and coastal lifestyle – all captured in the spirit of the mermaid,” said Scott Mires, partner and creative director at MiresBall. “Our job was to refine and amplify that brand goodness, and to share their coastal calling with a new national and international craft audience.”

Over the next sixteen months, Coronado Brewing will phase in the new packaging, debuting cans in March and new seasonal bottles in May. The company will roll out the new look and feel through 2016, with the goal of completing the transition by the beginning of 2017.

About Coronado Brewing Company: In 1996, when craft beer was still a foreign term and San Diego County was home to only a handful of breweries, the Chapman brothers Ron and Rick opened a brewpub in their hometown of Coronado. Today CBC stays true to their San Diego roots, brewing abundantly hoppy West Coast-style ales, which are available today in nineteen US states and ten countries. In addition to the long-established pub in Coronado, the company opened a tasting room inside their newly built San Diego production facility in early 2013, and a tasting room and restaurant in Imperial Beach, California in 2014. Coronado Brewing Company was honored in 2014 with one of the brewing industry’s most prestigious awards-World Beer Cup Champion Brewery and Brewmaster for a Mid-size Brewing Company.

CORONADO BREWING ADDS TANKS AND CANS IN RECENT MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR EXPANSION PLAN

CORONADO BREWING ADDS TANKS AND CANS IN RECENT MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR EXPANSION PLAN

Significant Capacity Increase and Canning Line in the Works at CBC

CORONADO, CA  September 8 Coronado Brewing has been hard at work the last few months to increase the efficiency and capacity of their brewery. The current World Beer Cup Champion brewery will be expanding its capacity to 65,000 barrels thanks to the multi-million dollar renovation plan including the recent addition of four 240-barrel fermenters at the end of August. In addition to the fermenters, the brewery has been adding and upgrading some key components to the brewery to help increase efficiency.

The brewery has recently secured an adjacent building at their San Diego brewery location.   They plan to use the building for dry storage and office space starting in September. The future use of the building is still open to a variety of options, one being a new brew house.

Some of the more exciting news to announce is that Coronado will begin canning in early 2016. They hope to have the canning line in place by the end of the year.

“We have been growing at a very high rate the last few years, it was time for us to make some big changes to the brewery to help us maintain the pace” said Brandon Richards, vice president of sales and marketing. “We have been trying to find more space in the brewery to allow us to add a canning line and that was accomplished.”

It has been another great year for Coronado Brewing. Sales have been growing at 30% through August and California continues to lead the way for that growth. “We can attribute a lot of our success in 2015 to our growth in the chains” said Richards. The brewery has recently picked up key business in California, Michigan and North Carolina.
