CORONADO BREWING AND BELCHING BEAVER DEBUT TAIL & TOOTH COLLABORATION

SAN DIEGO – March 28, 2019Coronado Brewing Company is excited to announce the second installment of its unique two-part collaboration with Belching Beaver Brewery. The two San Diego-based breweries first came together in January to brew Tooth & Tail Hazy IPA—a double dry-hopped New England-style IPA bursting with tropical juiciness. The breweries reunited in March at Coronado’s Bay Park facility to brew Tail & Tooth Hazy IPA.

Named for the mermaid’s tail and the beaver’s tooth, Tail & Tooth/Tooth & Tail each interpreted the hazy IPA style with unique hop profiles and London III yeast. Belching Beaver’s Tooth & Tail featured a vibrant blend of Mosaic, Idaho 7, Citra and Motueka, while Coronado’s Tail & Tooth showcases Idaho 7, Azacca and El Dorado. “We knew wanted to each brew a hazy IPA, but with slightly different hop profiles,” says Shawn Steele, Director of Brewery Operations, Coronado Brewing Company. “Tail & Tooth is super juicy and drinks like ripe pineapple. We’re stoked with the results.”

Tail & Tooth Hazy IPA will debut at Coronado Brewing’s three locations on Friday, March 29, in 16oz four-pack cans and on draft. Brewers from Coronado and Belching Beaver will be at Coronado’s main brewery and tasting room this Friday, March 29, from 4-6pm to answer questions about the beer. Tail & Tooth will be available throughout Coronado’s distribution network beginning in April. For more information about this dam coastal collaboration and events planned, visit www.coronadobrewing.com. Stay Coastal. Cheers.

CORONADO BREWING LAUNCHES 2019 ART SERIES WITH COSMIC OCEAN BRUT IPA

SAN DIEGO – February 20, 2019Coronado Brewing Company is debuting the first of its 2019 Art Series releases, with Cosmic Ocean Brut IPA. The company is proud to support emerging artists by featuring a fan-submitted Instagram photo on each of its quarterly releases. The first winner of the Instagram photo contest is Anthony Drake, a southern California-based outdoor and lifestyle photographer. Drake’s stunning photo of the night sky over the beach is the inspiration for Cosmic Ocean Brut IPA.

Cosmic Ocean is a single-hop Brut IPA. Mosaic hops give the beer bright grapefruit and pineapple notes bolstered by a subtle coconut flavor from the addition of toasted rice flakes. True to brut fashion, Cosmic Ocean finishes bone dry, with an effervescent and refreshing finish. “We wanted to make a brut that delivered a champagne-like experience,” says Shawn Steele, Director of Brewing Operations, Coronado Brewing Company. “The inherent fruity and tropical notes in Mosaic are a nice balance to the extreme dryness of this beer. It checks all the boxes for what you want in a good brut-style IPA,” says Steele.

Cosmic Ocean Brut IPA will debut at Coronado Brewing’s three locations on Thursday, February 21, in 16oz four-pack cans and on draft. The beer will hit broader retail availability at the end of the month and will be available throughout Coronado’s distribution network. As part of the launch, Coronado is partnering with High Minded Studios to recreate Drake’s photo for an interactive sip & paint party at the Tasting Room. CORONADO BREWING DEBUTS LEISURE LAGOON HAZY PALE ALE

SAN DIEGO – February 13, 2019Coronado Brewing Company is debuting Leisure Lagoon Hazy Pale Ale, the latest in its hop-forward lineup of year-round releases. Named for an inlet in Mission Bay, Leisure Lagoon is the company’s first year-round hazy offering, following the success of its highly anticipated seasonal hazy, North Island IPA. “Our fans can’t get enough of hazy beers” says Shawn Steele, Director of Brewing Operations, Coronado Brewing Company. “We are excited to offer a lower ABV option that doesn’t skimp on any of the bright and juicy hop notes that people have come to expect with this style.”

Leisure Lagoon Hazy Pale Ale is a unique spin on the hazy trend. It combines the best of East Coast and West Coast pale ales, using classic West coast hops, then fermenting with London III yeast for a softer mouthfeel and accentuated fruitiness. The end result is brighter and juicier than a typical west coast pale ale, with pleasant bitterness and easy-drinking ABV. “We spent a lot of time experimenting with different hop profiles and alcohol percentages,” says Steele. “At the end of the day, this is the beer that we all want to drink. It’s got the classic piney, dank, citrus hop character, with more fruitiness and softer mouthfeel from the yeast. We’re stoked with how it turned out and we think our fans will love it, too. It’s perfectly crushable.”

Leisure Lagoon Hazy Pale Ale will debut at Coronado Brewing’s three locations on Friday, February 15, in 16oz six-pack cans and on draft. The beer will hit broader retail availability later in February and will be available to buy in stores throughout Coronado’s distribution network. The company will also host an outdoor Leisure Lagoon Luau on Saturday, March 2, complete with luau-themed food, live music, and beer specials. CORONADO BREWING PLANS FOR 2018 & NEW CEO ANNOUNCEMENT

San Diego, CA – December 14, 2017 – 2017 was a challenging year for the craft beer industry, but Coronado Brewing Company is adapting to the rapidly changing landscape through a series of strategic moves. The 21-year-old brewery has diversified its business by investing in the launch of SouthNorte Beer Co. with former Coronado Head Brewer, Ryan Brooks, as well as partnering with local publican, Scot Blair, on Monkey Paw Brewing Company. “We know the craft beer landscape is changing quickly,” says Ron Chapman, Co-Founder, Coronado Brewing Company. “We spent 2017 laying a solid foundation for 2018 and we are confident that our investment in people, equipment, and breweries will pay off.”

To facilitate the company’s growth vision, CEO Ron Chapman is transitioning into a Chairman of the Board position. Current Co-COO, Brandon Richards, will step into the CEO position and will oversee day-to-day operations across all three brewing companies. “I have been saying for a long time that it is time to let the young guns run the brewery,” said Chapman. “Rick and I will still be active participants in our business, but these changes give Brandon the autonomy to move the business forward.” Kasey Chapman will remain COO, overseeing the restaurant operations for Coronado and Monkey Paw, including the newly opened quick-service kitchen at Coronado’s main brewery and tasting room in Bay Park.

Richards, a 13-year craft industry veteran, has been at Coronado Brewing for the past five years. In that time, he has helped the company increase production by 27,000 barrels, and oversaw the company’s brand refresh in 2015. “I have learned so much working with the Chapmans, and I am excited for this new opportunity to keep pushing our company forward in these challenging times,” says Richards. “A major challenge has been staying relevant in the eyes of craft beer drinkers. Having a portfolio of three brands allows us to stay current and grow in the future. We’ve laid the groundwork for success and we’re going to work hard on executing that vision in the coming year.”

CORONADO BREWING CONTINUES TO EXPAND WITH NEW TASTING ROOM KITCHEN

Tasting Room Kitchen

San Diego, CA – December 5, 2017 – Coronado Brewing Company is continuing the expansion of its Bay Park Brewery and Tasting Room with the addition of a quick-service kitchen. The new kitchen gives Coronado customers a reliable food option to enjoy with the 25 Coronado beers on tap at the Tasting Room. “We’ve been talking about a kitchen in this space since we first opened in 2013,” says Kasey Chapman, COO, Coronado Brewing Company. “The kitchen enables us to host more events, create special menu items to pair with our beers, and offer food throughout the day and into the evening.” The kitchen is currently in its soft opening, with an official opening date set for this Thursday, December 7, 2017.

The curated menu revolves around beer-friendly pizzas, salads, and sandwiches. “We wanted options that allow us to execute in an efficient and consistent manner,” says Chapman. The company is no stranger to food, having operated a successful brewpub on Coronado Island since 1996, and another quick service location in Imperial Beach since 2014.

The new kitchen is one of many changes happening at the company’s brewery and tasting room. Over the past year, the company has invested in three new bright tanks and a GEA centrifuge. Construction is currently underway to add windows and climate control to the tasting room eating/drinking space, while making room for a new 72-head bottling line, that is expected to be completed in spring of 2018. “We want our tasting room to be a relaxed space where people feel comfortable hanging out for a while, and watching the action in the brewhouse and packaging lines,” says Chapman.

The company also has plans for an expanded outdoor beer garden in 2018. The outdoor space will allow for additional capacity and will feature more seating, fire pits, string lighting, and games. For more information about the new kitchen, please visit www.coronadobrewing.com. Stay Coastal. Cheers.

BARREL-AGED BLACK FOREST CAKE IMPERIAL STOUT

BA Black Forest Cake

Coronado Brewing Company is releasing the next beer in its much anticipated barrel-aged series. Black Forest Cake Imperial Stout is part of the company’s Coronado Collection; “We redesigned this series earlier this year, and we’re excited for fans to try this next batch;” says Mark Theisen, Head Brewer, Coronado Brewing Company. “People loved our German Chocolate Cake release, so we thought it would be fun to take a Black Forest Cake and translate that into barrels.” Barrel-Aged Black Forest Cake began as a complex imperial stout, with layers of toffee, roast, and chocolate. The beer was aged for five months in freshly dumped bourbon and rye barrels, with cherries added for secondary fermentation. A second batch of the base stout was brewed with whole Madagascar vanilla beans and cocoa, before blending with the barrels. “We are really pleased with how this beer turned out,” says Theisen. “You get a lot of the cherries in the nose, and the blurbon character really highlights the vanilla beans, without being too sweet.” Barrel-aged Black Forest Cake finishes at 9% ABV with a lingering cocoa finish. The beer will debut at the company’s Bay Park Tasting Room on Friday, October 20th,in both 22oz bottles and on draft. Limited distribution will begin the following week, while supplies last. For more information about Barrel-Aged Black Forest Cake, please visit www.coronadobrewing.com. Stay Coastal. Cheers.

This rich and bold imperial stout spent five months in fresh bourbon barrels, before a blend of cocoa, vanilla beans, and cherries were added. The result is our sinfully delicious take on a Black Forest Cake.

CORONADO BREWING WELCOMES FALL WITH EARLY BIRD COLD BREW MILK STOUT

Fall is in the air, and cold brew is on our minds. Coronado Brewing Company is celebrating the changing of the seasons—as much as one can, in San Diego—with the release of Early Bird Cold Brew Milk Stout. The beer was originally brewed last year as an R&D small-batch for San Diego Beer Week, and it was so well-received that the company brought it back on a larger scale this year, in both 22oz bottles and 12oz can six-packs.

“Early Bird starts as a classic milk stout,” says Mark Theisen, Lead Brewer, Coronado Brewing Company. “We originally brewed this for a beer and donut event, so we wanted to have fun by adding coffee as an ode to it being a breakfast beer.” Coronado approached its neighbors down the street, award-winning Bird Rock Coffee & Roasters. After several cuppings, the team decided on a robust French Roast, and the final beer uses more than one pound of coffee per barrel of beer. “You can really taste the coffee in Early Bird. It adds a lot of complexity and pairs really well with the chocolate and complex maltiness,” says Theisen. “

Early Bird Cold Brew Milk Stout hits shelves late September and will be available throughout the company’s distribution footprint. For more information about Early Bird, visit www.coronadobrewing.com. Stay Coastal. Cheers.

Coronado Brewing Company and Monkey Paw Brewing Join Forces

In today’s tumultuous beer climate, two of San Diego’s most respected and award-winning independent craft breweries are joining forces to deliver more beer to thirsty fans. Coronado Brewing Company will acquire a majority share in Monkey Paw Brewing Company. The move allows Monkey Paw to share in Coronado’s resources, further developing the brand, while simultaneously maintaining the independence, integrity, and quality that Monkey Paw has become known for. The acquisition is expected to close September 1, 2017, for an undisclosed amount.

“We are excited to bring Monkey Paw Brewing Company into our family,” says Brandon Richards, COO, Coronado Brewing Company. “We’re looking forward to partnering with Scot Blair and his team; they have built a tremendous brand from the ground up, and their beers are incredibly well-respected. We can’t wait to share their brand with an expanded audience.”

The partnership will enable Monkey Paw to bring more of its beer to fans throughout Coronado’s distribution footprint. The plan is to grow organically, with Coronado working with Monkey Paw to expand draft accounts, refresh its branding, and increase off-premise distribution. “Scot Blair has created a brand with a lot of momentum, and we don’t want to mess with that too much,” says Richards. “The pub will continue to operate as-is, and we’re looking at releasing new cans in the near future.”

The partnership is beneficial for both brands, and allows Blair to retain creative brewing freedom. “I feel unbelievably lucky to be able to lean on 21+ years of pioneering leadership to move Monkey Paw up, and into the future,” says Scot Blair, Founder & Brewer, Monkey Paw Brewing Company. “Coronado’s commitment to our brand is why this is such an exciting time for our team. Nick [our head brewer] and I will continue to develop our beers, brew the beers, and grow the brand in a way that keeps the integrity and quality of what folks have come to expect from Monkey Paw. The only difference is now we can scale our operation, utilizing all the experience and resources of CBC’s amazing family.”

Coronado’s move to acquire Monkey Paw comes at a time when many regional breweries are experiencing declining sales. “We have been looking for the opportunity to bring in a brand that fits with our culture, and doing so allows us to realize our operational efficiencies,” says Richards. “It also gives us the opportunity to sell more beer in California, which we love doing. We think this is a powerful extension of our brand and a great way to diversify our offerings.”

Monkey Paw Brewing Company is proudly independent, and one of San Diego’s most award-winning craft breweries.  Since its inception, the Paw has brewed a wide variety of medal-winning beers, with its greatest honors coming by way of Gold and Silver at GABF and WBC, respectively. The original maker in Makers Quarter, Monkey Paw Brewing Company operates on a 10-barrel system in East Village, San Diego, and was the first brewery in the county to pioneer canning its beers, back in 2012.  So, whether it’s a trip back in time for a traditional old world ale, or jetting into the future with bleeding edge techniques and ingredients, its well-balanced, handcrafted ales and lagers are proof we’re not just monkeying around.

Coronado Brewing Company Supports Ales for ALS with Buster 4 IPA

Coronado Brewing Company is participating in the fifth annual Ales for ALS™ program. 128 participating breweries from 36 states each brewed a unique beer using a hop blend provided by Loftus Ranches and Yakima Chief – Hopunion (YCH HOPS). Ales for ALS™ has raised more than $1,250,000 for ALS research, with proceeds benefiting the ALS Therapy Development Institute (ALS TDI). The ALS TDI’s mission is to discover and develop effective treatments and a cure for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS); there is currently no cure for the progressive neurodegenerative disease which affects 500,000 people worldwide.

Coronado Brewing’s Buster 4 IPA is a tribute to Lou Gehrig, who was famously diagnosed with ALS at the height of his baseball career, and subsequently became a face for disease. “We’ve proudly supported Ales for ALS from the beginning,” says Tyler Tucker, R&D Brewer, Coronado Brewing Company. “It’s a great cause and we’re honored that we can help give back. It’s amazing to see the craft beer community rally behind Ales for ALS™.”

Buster 4 IPA features the unique hop blend provided free-of-charge by YCH HOPS, including Citra, Loral, HBC 472, HBC 344, HBC 568, and HBC 431. “This year’s blend is very complex, with layers of tropical fruit, citrus, and noble-like spiciness,” says Tucker. “We used 5.6 pounds of hops per barrel, compared to about 2 pounds in a typical IPA. The hops really shine in this beer!” The donated hops were used in the mash, late kettle additions, and dry-hoping for a big tropical and citrus aroma and flavor. Buster 4 IPA comes in at 6.0% and 50 IBUs, with a lingering, dry finish.

Buster 4 IPA will debut at the company’s Tasting Room on July 4, in honor of Gehrig’s retired #4. $1 from each pint sold will directly benefit ALS research. The beer will also be featured at the fourth annual Ales for ALS™ event at Faction Brewing Company, in Alameda, CA on July 22, 2017.
